Director: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra
Mirzya is not a simple Bollywood Film it’s a poetic way to represent the old folktale by a context of Modern Era. Mirzya has promised so much by it’s trailer but failed to transmit the feelings behind the historical Punjabi Love Story of Mirza Sahiban.
According to me, showing a transition between two ears is a USP of Mehra’s Direction, but on this venture, he slipped to convert the old tale into the Modern Package.
- Visuals of the film are extraordinary (Faad hai Boss).
- Music of movie makes your feet rhyme with Beats.
- Locations (Udaipur and Ladakh) are shot very intelligently.
- Debutants failed to reveal the Passion of Mirza-Shaiban.
- Lack of Strong Dialogues.
- Slow Pace of First Half.
Based on the Punjabi folk legend, the love story of Mirza Sahiban, this film is divided into two eras.
One where, through horse-back riding and shooting arrows, Mirza tries to win Sahiban by competing with her brothers.
In contemporary times, Suchi/Suchitra (Saiyami Kher) and Monish (Harshvrdhan Kapoor) are childhood friends until an offensive crime tears them apart. Years later, Suchi returns to India for her engagement to a royal prince, Karan (Anuj Choudhary), only to fall in love and rekindle her friendship with the stable boy, Adil who is actually Monish.
With the class difference and the horrific past, can Suchi and Monish’s love survive? What is the legend of Mirza-Sahiban all about?
Mirzya is influenced by the tale of Mirza-Sahiban which can be a better a film if scripts elaborate the secrets of that mystery of that story. Because Confusions are still there if Sahiban was passionate about Mirza then why she had broken the arrows?
Story would not provide much details about the ancient story as it focuses on the New Mirza and Sahiban.
The Original Mirza-Sahiban’s part eleborate a fight to marry with Sahiban and after loosing how he elopes her from her Brother. The whole story runs without a single dialogue which is an impressive way to depicts the story.
In the Modern Times, No good Chemistry between the lovers makes the film a dull and boring love story. The story moves with a reference of history and ends with the death of both Love Birds. No This is not like Ishaqzaade.
Film Goes with a Speed Of “BAILGAADI” and makes you ask with yourself ” BC Ghoda Dikha ke Gadha Bana Diya.” But wait, film speeds up in the second half with a hide and seek type of Chase Scenes.
Harshvardhan Kapoor is looking good in his subtle raw character, but he failed to deliver the acting skill which is must require for this Role. His Expressions are phenomenal and represent the feeling by his eyes, but this a Bollywood Drama, and it needs some powerful dialogues to make a remembrance.
Saiyami Kher has not done much in the film; she has to learn a lot about the acting and expressing yourself. This role is not suitable for her.
Anuj Chaudhary has done a good job in the Saiyami’s Fiance role; he acquired gestures and accent just like a king. Good Job by him.
Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has a unique skill to synchronize two timelines in a single story which is remarkable. There are no flaws in the Direction of Mehra; he had tried to illustrate every important aspect of the folk tale, but due to the downside of amateur actors and dialogues deficiency film sinks with the running time.
Film has some Excellent Visual Effect particularly in the traditional plot; the scenes are shot and executed so perfectly that It reminds me screenplay of Game of Thrones.
Music is the essence of the movie which produces an energy in the audience, but access use of Daler Mehndi’s Mirzya song turns to be a loophole, in every 15 minutes the voice slaps on your ears.
A standing ovation for cinematography, after a long timeI had watched such an extraordinary work behind the camera.
Mirzya is a colorful, Musical and Poetic Journey which excels in the Backend and falls at the frontend. This is surely not a movie which we expect from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra who has given us Bhag Milkha Bhag and Rang De Basanti.
Mirzya is only for a limited audience, strictly not for a commercial film lover because it has ability to make you sleep by it’s slow Pace.
My Rating is for Behind the Camera work which is Perfect and Remarkable.
