Google Allo was announced by Google back during its annual I/O event in May, along with the Duo video chat application. While Duo was made available only a few weeks ago, it’s now Allo’s turn to go official.
If you don’t know about Allo then I am going to give you a brief introduction about this latest service by Google. So Google Allo is basically a Messaging App with some smart features which we will discuss further in the post.
Okay that’s fine a Smart Messaging App, but why? Do we really need another social chat app?
If we try to retrieve some trending Social Chat apps then a huge list came across our mind like Whatsapp, iMessage, FB messenger, Hike, WeChat, Line, Snapchat, Hangout, Google talk and much more.
So the Main question which strikes on our minds that why we would install another messaging app? Is it worth to take place of Whatsapp and Fb Messenger? Is it really So smart that Google is claiming for?
After Using Google Allo for a whole day, I am here to present my views on this latest service of google.
Here are the few features of Allo which are distinct from other messaging apps:
1. The Google Assistant
Google has included inbuilt assistant feature in the Allo to make it different from other competitors but Google Assistant is actually in a “preview” stage at the moment, so don’t be surprised if you find some bugs or lag.
You can use this service by two ways, either you can open the Google Assistant tab on the main screen or just type @google followed your question or order.
2. In-message searches
While using any social App if we need to search something then we have to close the app and then find the results by using browser but with Google Allo you can just type @google [Your search term] and it will show you all possible results inside the App.
3. Incognito Mode
This is the coolest feature Google has included in the Allo, it is quite similar to the Chrome incognito means a end to end encryption for chats.
Along with this, the chat history will disappear automatically, depending on the expiration period you have set. In case, you have switched off your expiration period, the chats won’t disappear.
4. Smart Suggestion
This feature is similar to the quick type in ios, in this feature Google Assistant automatically give responses which are suitable to the query asked by the sender.
For instance if someone sends you a ‘How are you?’, the app will offer you the automatic response of ‘Good, how about you’ that you can send across.
Shout/Whisper is an attempt by Google to make chats more interactive and interesting. Google Allo allows you to change the font sizes of text messages, for that, you have to hold the send icon and slide it up or down and then release to send.
Google added another smart feature in the App as ‘Photo Recognition,’ if someone sends you a picture of a beach, it will suggest ‘beautiful’ or ‘wow’ as a response.
7. Stickers and Editing feature
Allo will allow you to send some cool stickers which can be downloaded free from the library.
Only for Android users, Allo grants you permission to write or place anything above the image before sending to anyone.
There are some features which are currently missing in this new App:
1. No last Seen, No Status Update
2. No Calling Facility like WhatsApp and Messenger
3. You can’t share file from this App (Docs, PDF, XML, etc.)
4. No Desktop Client
5. Take time to refresh unread messages
Google Allo is Smart but not necessary App so that you can ignore as for now. Allo is currently much behind from its main Competitors like iMessage, WhatApp, and Messanger.
You can try incognito mode for your personal or confidential chats, this is one handy and useful feature of this App. Hope for some great modifications in the future which make it a must-have App.
